This was a case of fallen too fast, instead of fallen too far to me!
I was really excited to read this book and I had high expectations of it being an Abbi Glines book. While I enjoyed this book, a key element was missing for me. It had the potential to be a fantastic five star book, instead of an enjoyable three and a half star book, since this book did have a great plot, great conflict and characters with great potential.
Fallen to Far is about a girl named Blaire who recently lost her mother to cancer. With no other family support she reluctantly asks her absentee father for a place to stay just until she gets herself back on her feet but when she arrives at her new home destination her father is not even there to greet her, he is too busy holidaying with his new wife in Paris. The one person who is there is the owner of the house, her step-brother Rush, who is not only surprised to see her but also shows great hostility, aggression and anger towards Blaire for reasons she doesnt understand. With great reluctance, Rush lets Blaire stay on the condition that she can only stay for one month and stays in the closet at the back of the pantry, but as time goes on the attraction between the two become come to hard to ignore and they fall in love. But it seems Rush is hiding something from Blaire and she knows its something that involves her but what Blaire doesnt realize is when the truth is revealed her life will never be the same again!
In my opinion the missing element of this book was the chemistry build up and relationship growth between Rush and Blaire - this relationship happened way too fast! One minute Blaire is living in the pantry closet under the stairs and they are barley speaking to each other, and the next minute they are declaring their attraction to each other, having hot, steamy sex and falling in love?? There was no real chase, not enough flirting, no substantial emotional build up or chemistry, all this growth was greatly missed in the story and thats what I look forward to reading in my books.
The character of Rush was also slightly disappointing for me, he had the makeup to be a really strong character with great layers and depth but I found him lacking integrity and soul. I didnt believe him when he spoke to Blaire about his feelings towards her, I felt his overall presence lacked bite BUT what I felt was missing in Rush was made up for with the character of Blaire, this sweet, sweet girl had me so emotionally involved I felt for her, for what this girl had to endure in her life, I believed her when she spoke, I believed in her. What a fantastic character, so completely selfless, hard working, not materialistic, genuine, down to earth, humble, not to mention beautiful person, she made this book come to life.
The plot was very well written and the conflict in this story completely shocked me. Blaires father is a complete JERK FACE; he has all the opposite qualities of Blaire. I was so proud of the way Blaire put him and everyone else in their place, stood up for what she believed in, was true in her heart and wasnt going to let anyone walk all over the truth.
So even though there were a couple of negatives, the positives still kept me interested and I am looking forward to reading the sequel, Never Too Far, to see what is in store for Blaire. I hope she gets her well deserved happy ending.
