I heard Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki has released about 32 books; the latest of which is Game of Knowns.
Ive been following Dr. Karls radio program and am amazed at the ease he answers the callers science questions. Not only that, he explains complex subjects in a really simple manner. Making science something listeners can easily understand.
He uses this style in Game of Knowns. The book, despite being a science book, is a fun read. My child and I had loads of fun reading it and exchanging facts we read from Game of Knowns.
There are just two things I dont like about this book: the title and the cover. I think the scientist could have come up with a better title and book cover. Even with those two things, Id still give this book a rating of 4 out of 5.
Ive hear d of Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki when I heard him on radio Triple J answering scientific questions. From then on, I started tuning in. I was totally amazed at all the new facts I was learning. Afterwards, I heard about his new book, The Game of Knowns. I knew I just had to grab a copy and grab a copy was what I did.
Im not too fond of the cover and title, but at least the content more than makes up for it. The book offered really great facts I never would have wondered about. For example, the book tells its readers that psychopaths can be good kings. I, honestly, wouldnt have thought of that, would you?
In a really good way, I find myself overwhelmed with all these facts. I can share the info with my friends and family. Not only do I bond with them, they in turn learn fun facts; then, they can share it with others as well.
When I first heard of Game of Knowns, I thought I heard wrong. Unfortunately, I didnt.
I am not too happy about this books title and cover since I am a huge fan of George R.R. Martins A Game of Thrones. Sure GOT is a big hit, but I would think that Dr. Kruszelnicki could have come up with a better title for his book. He, after all, has a brilliant mind. It cant be that difficult for him to have a creative and unique title for his publication, right?
Book cover and title aside, this reminds me of my childhood. My parents used to buy me encyclopaedias and Id eagerly devour each page. I just loved reading about facts. Needless to say, I got a copy of this book and I dont regret purchasing it.
Game of Knowns does have several fascinating facts. Although, I wish it had a more organised way of putting things together. Going through the book, it gave me the feeling that interesting facts were thrown here and there without considering the layout or pagination of the book. Maybe it would help more if some facts were grouped together if they were relevant to each other.
On a positive note, I appreciate that explanations for complex scientific theories were discussed in a way that non-scientists can understand. If youre into collecting non-fiction / science books and are not picky about book covers, Id recommend this book.
