Just listen,' Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel. I open my eyes wide now. I sit up as much as I can. And I listen.
'Stay,' he says.

Everybody has to make choices.

Some might break you.

For seventeen-year-old Mia, surrounded by a wonderful family, friends and a gorgeous boyfriend decisions might seem tough, but they're all about a future full of music and love, a future that's brimming with hope.

But life can change in an instant.

A cold February morning . . . a snowy road . . . and suddenly all of Mia's choices are gone. Except one.

As alone as she'll ever be, Mia must make the most difficult choice of all.

Gripping, heartrending and ultimately life-affirming, If I Stay will make you appreciate all that you have, all that you've lost - and all that might be.

I love this book for its simplicity and ability to pull at your heart strings. I didn't know what I was in for when I started to read it. I never read the blurb on the back and so I thought it was just going to be an average girl falls in love with boy and has to choose whether or not her career was more important. Boy was I wrong!

The way the book is set out with its flashbacks and her current inner dialogue was perfect. It helped layout the emotional connection Mia had with her family and her friends. It also helped to get to know who she was and how she got there. It was vital for these bits of information to be in the book for us to develop a connection with her, to understand her decision and to agree or disagree with it.

I found myself just reading along, enjoying the flashbacks and loving the storyline and then Wham-O, Mia is brought back to her present situation and her struggle to come to terms with everything and I was crying. I know how she would feel in that situation.

It's a raw and emotional read that will leave you feeling refreshed and sad at the same time. And the good thing about this book is if you want to find out what happened afterwards then you read the next book: Where She Went.
