The Munsell system is a colour identification and notation system used by artists and designers that identifies colours by alpha numbers rather than by name, avoiding confusion and making communication easier. The endless variations in colour can be defined in the Munsell System by three attributes: hue, value, and chroma. Just as length, width, and height describe a cube, so the amounts of hue, value, and chroma describe a colour.
