The luckiest girl alive is a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, turning the pages waiting to find out exactly what made Ani/TiFaNi such a mess.

And this book is NOT for a lot of readers. There is some pretty explicit content in here that would be disturbing for a number of reasons. Sexual assault and rape, murder and acts of terror are mentioned in here, so if these topics are triggers for you, I’d back away now.

If you’re still with me, hold on to your hats, because Ani is a manipulative, cold and calculating character, with few ties to friends and social networks to fall back on. Her narrative is harsh and judgmental, and it’s difficult to understand why marrying Luke is such an anchor for her. She rather despises Luke, but is holding on because of the status and wealth such a marriage provides her.

Ani is cruel to her friends her coworkers, and her mother, and is dead set on forging a path with a righteous end.

The book moves between 14 year old TifAni and her high school struggles, and 28 year old Ani, who is attempting to broadcast her success to everyone. The teen plot is a shallow and ‘heathers’ esque as you would expect. She’s trying to fit in with the cool crowd, and is plotting to take over the school.

The plot draws you in quickly, as there are asides throughout the narrative that hint at some catastrophic event that made Ani the woman she is. However as you delve deeper into her life you realize it’s not just one event that shaped her life, and Ani needs to choose how to move forward, if she can love Luke, or if she needs to make different choices to be free of her past.
