I hoped the Nazis would be defeated. And they were. I hoped the war would be over. And it was. I hoped we would be safe. But we aren't.

‘Haunting... dangerous and desperate, but also full of courage and hope.’ The Guardian

Having survived the holocaust, Felix is facing new challenges as he tries to rebuild his life in Poland. He is determined to find his family and uncover the truth about his past. He also has to navigate the complex realities of post-war Poland, where anti-Semitism is still prevalent. With its powerful blend of humour and heart, Soon offers a unique perspective on the aftermath of the Holocaust and the long-lasting impact of trauma, and it is a powerful reminder of the resilience and hope that can be found even in the darkest of times.

Morris Gleitzman

Morris Gleitzman grew up in England and came to Australia when he was sixteen.

After university he worked for ten years as a screenwriter. Then he had a wonderful experience.

He wrote a novel for young people. Now, after 36 books, he's one of Australia's most popular children's authors.

In February 2018 Morris was chosen as the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018-19.

I want to be an ambassador for the fears and hopes and dreams and dreads that young people have as they contemplate and navigate today’s world, and also as they think about the possibilities of their future adult worlds,’ Gleitzman said.

‘Much of my time will be spent championing stories as a medium for young people to engage creatively with those possibilities. Stories reveal themselves in our imaginations, our intellects and our emotions—all places where we work on our own destinies.’

Purchased these for my son and ended up reading them myself. This story is OK but starts to deal with heavier concepts that children might find disturbing. I found this plot less engaging than in previous books. I suspect my son will loose interest in the series at this point.

It was a good book. It is the fith book in the series. Possibly as a parent read it first to make sure you think it is suitable. Personally my year 6 kid loved it but it does touch on some heavy content.
