Frank has been in a car accident*. The doctor tells him he lost his spleen, but Frank believes he has lost more. He is missing memories - of those around him, of the history they share and of how he came to be in the crash. All he remembers is that he is a lawyer who specialises in small print**. In the wake of the accident Frank begins to piece together his former life - and his former self. But the picture that emerges, of his marriage, his family and the career he has devoted years to, is not necessarily a pretty one. Could it be that the terms and conditions by which Frank has been living are not entirely in his favour***? In the process of unravelling the knots into which his life has been tied, he learns that the devil really does live in the detail and that it's never too late to rewrite your own destiny. *apparently quite a serious one **words that no one ever reads *** and perhaps never have been

Frank Shaw is a terms & conditions lawyer, writing the fine print to insurance contracts for his familys law firm. He wakes after a car accident to find he has lost his spleen, and his memories. But slowly, as his memories are triggered, he begins to piece together what caused the car accident and why. When Frank realises people in his life are not who he thought, and his relationships are not what one would ideally want, he starts to reevaluate things.

I particularly liked the way the author recognizes the struggles Frank faces to change his circumstances. We can become very comfortable in our anticipated lives and the big changes can be pretty scary, even if they are ruining you. It makes the Franks character, for me, all the more identifiable.

Terms and Conditions is a glorious read and a much deserving Book of the Month. The use of footnotes to describe Franks thoughts through the narrative are hilarious and definitely not something to skip over! Robert Glancy has written a witty and smart debut which will make you laugh out loud and forever read the terms and conditions.

I loved Terms & Conditions by Robert Glancy. Writing the novel in the form of terms and conditions was a great idea and meant that it could be read and enjoyed in short bursts. Frank Shaw is a thoroughly likeable man and I was cheering for him the whole book through.

Well written and extremely witty, I will be keeping an eye out for Robert Glancys next effort.
