When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing his entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard? Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Bod has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him - after all, he is the last remaining member of the family. A stunningly original novel deftly constructed over eight chapters, featuring every second year of Bod's life, from babyhood to adolescence. Will Bod survive to be a man?

This was the first Neil Gaiman book that I ever read, and I finally understand what all of the fuss is about. THAT MAN IS A LITERARY GENIUS!

Its hard to summarise the plot without sounding like a mad mad, but here goes nothing: Bod's family has just been murdered by a black cloaked man named Jack. By what seems like pure luck and good timing, Bod escapes his house, eventually finding himself in a graveyard. What happens next is what makes this story so magical -- the ghosts of the graveyard appear to protect the young boy from his family's killer, as the graveyard unites to save him from the relentless and unforgiving murderer who seeks to finish the job he started all those years ago, raising him as a part of their supernatural world.

A plot rich in mystery forcing you to be skeptical of everyone, a setting filled with all kinds of supernatural beings and characters that you will fall in love with, this book has it all!

I highly recommend this book to all ages, particularly if you love a good supernatural story filled with great writing, because what else can we expect from Neil Gaiman?
