It is June 1778, and the world seems to be turning upside down. The British Army is withdrawing from Philadelphia, with George Washington in pursuit, and for the first time it looks as if the rebels might actually win. But for Claire Fraser and her family, there are even more tumultuous revolutions that have to be accommodated. Her former husband, Jamie, has returned from the dead, demanding to know why in his absence she married his best friend, Lord John Grey. Lord John's son, the ninth Earl of Ellesmere, is no less shocked to discover that his real father is actually the newly resurrected Jamie Fraser, and Jamie's nephew Ian Murray discovers that his new-found cousin has an eye for the woman who has just agreed to marry him. And while Claire is terrified that one of her husbands may be about to murder the other, in the twentieth century her descendants face an even more desperate turn of events. Her daughter Brianna is trying to protect her son from a vicious criminal with murder on his mind, while her husband Roger has disappeared into the past...

Diana Gabaldon

Diana Gabaldon is the author of the international bestselling Outlander novels and Lord John Grey series.

She says that the Outlander series started by accident: 'I decided to write a novel for practice in order to learn what it took to write a novel, and to decide whether I really wanted to do it for real.

I did and here we all are trying to decide what to call books that nobody can describe, but that fortunately most people seem to enjoy.' And enjoy them they do - in their millions, all over the world.

Published in 42 countries and 38 languages, in 2014 the Outlander novels were made into an acclaimed TV series starring Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe as Claire.

Seasons three and four are currently in production. Diana lives with her husband and dogs in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is currently at work on her ninth Outlander novel.

Diana Gabaldon is one of our absolute favourite authors. This is historical fiction with the best heartthrob around in Jamie. This is the 8th book in the Outlander series (soon to be coming to TV) but you dont need to have read all the other books although we couldnt recommend the series more highly.

I waited and waited for this to come out and was not disappointed. Jamie and Claire continue their lives entwined by the most marvelous family and happenings wrapped in a historically significant period of American history. Diana has continued her story that makes you want to read just to see what happens next. Great book, hope there is another to come! Spelling mistake last line last page! Did not spoil the book for me though! Thanks Diana, Five star recommendation!
