Background
Pearson Australia Group Pty Ltd (Pearson) purchased Borders Australia Online (Borders) from REDgroup Retail Pty Ltd in 2011. Pearson has rebranded Borders Online which now operates as Bookworld, an online retail business.

As a result of its purchase of Borders, Pearson has collected and holds the personal information of Borders customers and visitors to what is now the Bookworld website. This information includes the customer lists contained in databases associated with the Tangent Online Australia platform. These databases contain details of loyalty program members, gift card recipients and individuals who have signed up to marketing mail-outs, Border’s email program and other promotional advertisements from Borders.

Any personal information that Pearson has collected as a result the purchase of Borders, or that it will collect through the Bookworld site in the future, will be used, disclosed, managed and stored in accordance with Pearson's privacy policy and you consent to Pearson handling your information as provided for in this policy.

Collection of Information
Pearson is committed to protecting the personal privacy of our customers and observing the National Privacy Principles pursuant to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Pearson collects and uses your personal information for the purposes of operating the Bookworld business. Such information is generally supplied when customers register details, submit and pay for an order, seek a refund without a receipt or provide product and service feedback. Generally, the information collected includes customer name, address, delivery address, phone number and other contact details (fax, email etc), merchandise information (purchases, orders etc), and method of payment including credit or debit card number and expiry date. By obtaining the above information, Pearson may process your order and communicate with you.

Bookworld may also collect information about you that is not personal. For example, we may collect data relating to your activity on our websites (including the type of browser you use, your operating system, address of referring site, and your IP address and clickstream information) via tracking technologies such as cookies or through surveys and promotions. Cookies are pieces of information that are transferred to your computer's hard drive via your Web browser. They allow us to provide you with a more convenient and personalised shopping experience by recording information about your preferences.

Use of Information
The primary purpose for which we collect information about you is to conduct our business, provide and market our products and services to you, meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and also for the management of business transactions entered into with us and the administration of any accounts you have with us. In addition, if you opt-in, we may use your personal information to provide you with news and information about our products and services and opportunities that we believe you may be interested in.

You are not obliged to provide us with your personal information; however if you choose not to provide us with the information we request, we may not be able to provide you with the information, goods or services you have sought, including the purchase and delivery of items from this website.

Disclosure
Pearson may disclose, and you consent to us disclosing, information to third parties in accordance with its Privacy Policy. This may include to other members of the Pearson Group and other third party providers some of whom may be located overseas.

Access and complaints process
We take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information that we hold from misuse, loss or unauthorised access, including by means of firewalls, password access, secure servers and encryption of credit card transactions.
