Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan is a teacher and a writer, and has won many awards for his mystery novels for adults.

He says that the idea for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief first came to him while he was teaching Greek mythology at middle school in San Francisco.

But rumour has it that Camp Half Blood actually exists, and Rick spends his summers there recording the adventures of young demigods. Some believe that, to avoid a mass panic among the mortal population, he was forced to swear on the River Styx to present Percy Jackson's story as fiction.

Rick lives in Texas (apart from his summers on Half Blood Hill) with his wife and two sons.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Surprisingly it took a few hundred pages to get into this book and I found myself reading for the sake of finishing the series instead of actually enjoying it. The ending was weird. Call me a pessimist but I felt like everything was resolved way too quickly in the end and it was just too perfect. Also this book was not as action packed as I had hoped. Maybe because the structure is getting too autonomous and predictable for an avid fan like me. However I really loved Nico's chapters, they were the absolute highlights of this book. The ending of BoO could be compared with Harry Potter but whilst HP delivered, this was not as satisfying nor as impactful. Definitely not my favourite book in the series (since the other books were just amazing) but it's still enjoyable nonetheless but I'm disappointed to say I did not get the "can't put this book down" feeling this time round.
