Invited to perform at a casino in remote Alice Springs, Australia, drag queens Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Guy Pearce) and transsexual Bernadette (Terence Stamp) hit the road in a broken-down lavender bus named Priscilla in this campy comedy classic. Along the way, the friends change into their most outrageous costumes and lip-synch disco tunes -- including plenty of ABBA -- for the outback's befuddled locals.
ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
This notorious horror parody -- a fast-paced potpourri of camp, sci-fi and rock 'n' roll, among other things -- tracks the exploits of nave couple Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) after they stumble upon the lair of transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). The film -- a bizarre musical co-starring Meat Loaf and Richard O'Brien -- bombed in its initial release but later gained a cult following at midnight showings.
BIRDCAGE
Longtime lovers Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) and Albert Goldman (Nathan Lane) own a Miami drag club, but when Armand's son announces his intent to marry the daughter (Calista Flockhart) of a stuffy U.S. Senator (Gene Hackman), Armand decides he has to fake a "normal" family. Nominated for an Academy Award for art direction, director Mike Nichols's comical farce is fast, funny and out of control. Hank Azaria co-stars.
